Impact of the expansion of HYV boro paddy acreage on the production of other crops in Bangladesh

Expansion of HYV Boro paddy acreage in recent years has seriously affected the production of other crops, especially the winter legumes. Consequently, the prices of these crops have gone up sharply. Statistical analysis shows that the most affected crops are: local Aus, local wheat, pulses, peas, blackgram, coriander seeds and sesame. The least affected are: local boro, gram, grasspea, spices, chillies and onion. More emphasis on research and extension is needed to increase the production of these Boro paddy.
