Physiological status of the bovine teat
1994
Hamann, J. (Bundesanstalt fuer Milchforschung, Kiel (Germany)) | Burvenich, C.
A short description of direct and indirect measuring methods to characterize the physiological status of the teat condition is given as background information. Teat conformation, anatomical structure and composition of the tissues are discussed with regard to the physiological function of the teat. In addition to the aspects of the functional teat morphology, both individual cow factors (for example breed, quarter location, lactation stage and number, diurnal changes) and external factors (for example milking, feeding, housing conditions, management) are related to the dynamics of the physiological teat reactions to milking.
