During a 2.5 year period (1988-1990), White-backed Mousebirds were recorded breeding from August to May in the Prince Albert district in the southern Karoo, South Africa. There was no correlation between the number of breeding records (nests and chicks out of the nest) and flowering, fruiting, new shoots and leaves, temperature or day length. The density of White-backed Mousebirds on our study area was correlated with the availability of fruit. Regression models show that breeding was weakly correlated with rain in 1989 and 1990.
