The effect of nitrogen on the green mass of fodder rape (Brassica napus ssp. oleifera biennis)

The influence of nitrogen fertilization on the yield of the green mass of winter rape has never been earlier investigated in Estonia. Fodder rape 'Samo' was drilled at sowing rate of 200 seeds per square m in spring from 1987 to 1991. The green mass was harvested at 5 different times from 60 to 110 days after sowing. The yield of green mass and dry matter of rape increased with raising the doses of nitrogen. But in case of earlier times of harvest, there was no significant increase of the yield beginning with N150 and in case of later times of harvest beginning with N200
