Susceptibility of maize hybrids to mechanical inoculation with potyviruses in greenhouse conditions

Susceptibilty of twenty maize hybrids to maize dwarf mosaic virus (MDMV), sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV-MB and SCMV-A strains) was studied in greenhouse experiments. The hybrids were more susceptible to SCMV-MB, than to MDMV. Experimets with six hybrids were carried out with three replications. Differences among the infectivity rates were higher than 40, and the susceptibility range of the hybrides was also slightly changed. The alterations could be caused by the different conditions (mainly the temperature and the nutrition) in the greenhouse during the time of mechanical inoculation and symptom development.
