The development of various technologies, machinery and burning equipment serving the energy-utilization of biomass has already been started in Hungary from the beginning of the 1980's. According to preliminary calculations, the capacity of the test (pilot) plant has been projected for the production of 5000 t straw briquette per year. The briquette making presses produce briquette per year. The briquette making presses produce briquettes of 1.15-1.25 kg/cu.dm compactness, discharged from the press at 50-70 deg temperature. The cooling of the briquettes must be controlled, since they lose 1-2 % of their humidity content during cooling. The specific energy demand amounts to 100-120 kWh/t, which is 2.5-3 % of its fuel value
