Hoof-disease of the mouflon (Ovis ammon musimon)

In 1989, 64 moufflons were bagged: 21 rams, 35 dams and 8 lambs. Examining the circumstances of bagging, the hunters noticed an unusual movement, limp of the moufflons, in several cases. It became evident that the hoofs of the moufflons had overgrown considerably, those of one or another of them were of "ragged sole", and in another case crackings and incurvations could be observed on the bearing edge parts of the hoof-kreazoid, it could be often seen in the panaritium as well. It is the Sphaerophorus necrophorus and the Fusiformis modosus which can be considered as the pathogen of the disease. Its treatment is not at all possible, but its prevention should be by all means considered. The animal density must not be over-increased (6 moufflons/100 ha), the condition of the animals should be improved and their contact with sheep must not be allowed. Namely, the moufflon and sheep may become mutually infected by stomach-intestine- and pulmonary worms. In the vicinity of salt supply for wildlife, the disease of the hoofs of moufflons can be prevented by sprinkling the soil with CuSO4
