Effect of stable manure on irrigated grasslands planted with Festuca pseudovina

In an 8-year experiment, studies were made on the effect of stable manure, alone or applied in combination with N, P, or NP fertilizers, on an irrigated F. pseudovina grassland with a saline soil. N rates of 43 and 87 kg/ha and P205 rates of 47 and 9l4 kg/ha were applied, separately or together. Manuring was carried out with 21 t/ha mature cattle manure. Stable manure alone led to a yield surplus of 11 o/o over the average of 4 years compared to the control, while this figure was 12-54 o/o when only mineral fertilizers were applied. Plots treated with both stable manure and fertilizers have dry matter surpluses of 21-66 o/o. The quantity of stable manure distributed alone once every 4 years was not sufficient in itself to supply the nutrient needs of the grassland, so it was unable to compete with NP fertilization, which provided 2-8 times as much active agent over the 8 years than the nutrient content of the stable manure. If larger rates of manure were distributed, or the rates used in the experiment were applied every 1 or 2 years, higher yields could probably be produced on irrigated grassland
