Extended grain storage ability by fumigation using phostoxin tablets
1989
Soemardi
An experiment to evaluate the effects of phostoxin fumigation on the storability of Cisadane rough rice was undertaken at Karawang Sub-Station during September 1983 until September 1994. Those quality initials of rice, namely: (a) 3 percent chalky grains + 3 percent foreign matter; (b) 5 percent chalky grains + 5 percent foreign matter; and (c) 7 percent chalky grains + 7 percent foreign matter were stored under ambient conditions. The grain moisture content at the beginning was 14 percent. Grains were given three levels of fumigation treatment, i.e. no treatment, fumigation at intervals of four months and fumigation done monthly. The best result was obtained when rice of quality level was fumigated monthly. The degree of damage increased when the quality of grains stored was low and the frequency of fumigation was reduced. Rice quality of level (c) showed a kernel damage of 3 percent when fumigated monthly and this increased to 3.54 percent if no fumigation was done. With no fumigation in all quality classes, damage was detected after 4 months of storage
