Report on a collection of Carangoid and Formionid fishes from the Hyuga nada area, southern Japan

Carangoid and Forminoid fishes from the coast of the Hyuga Nada area, Miyazaki Prefecture, in southern Japan were examined. Thirty-nine carangoid and one formionid fishes belonging to 19 genera were identified: Naucrates, Elagatis, Seriola, Seriolina, Scomberoides, Trachinotus, Trachurus, Decapterus, Selar, Pseudocaranx, Kaiwarinus, Megalaspis, Uraspis, Caranx Carangichthys, Carangoides, Atropus, and Alectis of the family Carangidae and Parastromateus of the family Formionidae. Caranx papuensis, Carangoides fluvoguttatus, and C. chrysophrys were recorded in the northern area of the Ryukyu Islands for the first time. However, no species of the genera Atule, Selaroides, Alepes, and Gnathanodon, known in the Japanese waters, were observed there
