Girellid and Kyphosid fishes in Miyazaki prefecture, southern Japan

Three girellid and three kyphosid fishes were observed along the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture, southern Japan: Girella melanichthys, G. mezian and G. punctata in girellids; Kyphosus cinerascens, K. lembus and K. sp. in kyphosids. Most of the girellids were seen between October and February, while most of the kyphosids were seen between June and September. Furthermore, girellids and kyphosids accounted for 49.0% and 4.4%, respectively, of the total catches by a fixed set net, and were very important commercial fishes in the shallow rocky shore area of Miyazaki, southern Japan
