A new naked barley cultivar "Sanshuu"

A new six-rowed naked barley cultivar "Sansyuu" developed by the Shikoku National Agricultural Experiment Station was selected from the cross between Nanpuu-hadaka and F1 plant of Nanpuu-hadaka / Hiproly made in 1972. It was registered as Naked Barley Norin 30 in 1989. Main characteristics of Sansyuu are as follows: 1) Sansyuu is a highly nutritious cultivar with high protein content and high lysine content compared to ordinary naked barley cultivars. 2) Sansyuu's maturations slightly earlier compared with Nanpuu-hadaka and the cultivar belongs to the spring habit I group. 3) Sansyuu shows an intermediate culm length and short ears with a slightly lax density. The ear number per unit area is large and the hill spread is compact at maturity. 4) Sansyuu is slightly resistant to lodging and highly resistant to sprouting. It is highly resistant to Barley Yellow Mosaic Virus, but susceptible to powdery mildew. 5) the grain yield of the kernel is lower than that of Nanpuu-hadaka, but the yield of protein and lysine is higher. 6) The kernel is brown, slightly small, slender and glassy. 7) Sansyuu is well adapted to the Seto Inland Sea area of the Shikoku and Chugoku districts
