Vegetative propagation of cultivar Ruiru 11 by rooting softwood stem cuttings
1992
Wamatu, J.N. | Kingori, M.W.
About 6,000 two-year old trees of Ruiru 11 hybrid cultivar were pruned and pegged down in a horizontal position to serve as mother-trees for sucker harvesting at Coffee Research Station, Ruiru; to investigate a number of aspects of the vegetative propagation of the cultivar. The results showed that the rooting of stem cuttings was rather difficult with less than 50% take. Little success was also obtained from use of rooting hormones. The whole single node cutting produced roots almost equally well as split single node cuttings. The effect of the rooting media was found to be significant
