Anatomical studies on the sexual dimorphism of the skeleton of the domestic goat (Japanese Saanen)

An atlas on the skeleton of the male and female domestic goat (Japanese Saanen) was completed in 40 figures. This atlas was intended to use with that of the skeleton of the Japanese serows in the previous paper(J. Fac. Agric. Shishu Univ. Vols. 20-22, 1983-85). The bones of the male domestic goat were generally larger and thicker than those of the female domestic goat. The sexual differences of the skeleton of the domestic goat were clearly noted in the following points: Occipital Bone; squamous part, external occipital crest, inion, paracondyloid process. Temporal Bone; petrous crest, mastoid process, tympanic bulla. Nasal Bone; anterior end. Incisive Bone; shape. Mandibula; mandibula head. Cervical and Thoracic Vertebrae; spinous process. Lumbal vertebrae; spinous and transverse processes. Sacrum; shape. Ribs; articular surfaces of head and tubercle. Scapula; glenoid cavity. Humerus; proximal part. Radius and Metacarpal; shaft. Ulna (olecranon). Os Coxae; height of ischiatic spine, shape of ilium, symphysis pelvis, shapes of iliopubic eminence and ischial arch. Pelvis; pelvic cavity. The tibia was the longest bone in the body of the male and female goats (Japanese Saanen). The length of the long bones of the goats were ordered as follows, tibia, ulna, os femoris, humerus, radius, metatarsal and metacarpal bones
