Construction of development in lumber industry in Kiso area [Japan]

Kiso area, which has been long famous for forestry, is now under the state of the decrease in natural cypress resources. Wood industry in this area will be sure to be short supply of wood in the near future. In this paper, the actual conditions of lumbering industry in Kiso are investigated from the past to the present, and the construction of their development is studied. Each lumbering factory has got through critical situations by lumbering different kinds of wood. But the present crisis is not the same as before: it must be conquered on the assumption that the natural wood resources in Kiso will become extinct in the near future. It will be requested not only to change the kinds of lumbering wood in Kiso are, but also to choose the substitutive kinds of wood from the worldwide view
