1) Mongolian cattle and yak herded under the traditional pastoral system and improved feeding and housing conditions have been crossed with some exotic milk-meat breeds of cattle, such as Simmental and Alatau. Milk and meat productivity and quality indices of those hybrids have been established and suitable feeding and herding systems were developed. 2) Studies conducted on the acclimatisation of exotic milk breeds showed that black and white and Altau breeds are suitable for Mongolian conditions. In order to improve the milk productivity of the Simmental and Steppe Red breeds, it is important to use the best genetic stock, to improve herd management and the quality of fodder. 3) Progress has been made towards establishing milking herds in the forest-steppe regions and near urban areas, and improving selection and breeding methods
