1993

Advance EC, a mixture of equal amounts of butachlor (2-chloro 2,' 6'-diethyl-N-(butoxymethyl)-acetanilide and propanil (3'4'-dichloropropioanilide) was field tested at farmer's field in Los Banos, Laguna [Philippines] for its weed control efficacy in transplanted lowland rice from January to April, 1993. Herbicide rates at 1.0 and 1.5 liters formulated products per hectare were applied at 6 and 8 days after transplanting (DAT) when seedlings of Echinochloa glabrescens were at 1-3 leaf stage (LS) and broodleaf weeds at 2-4 LS. Excellent control of the dominant weed E. glabrescens was obtained as well as to broodleaf species at application rates of 1.0 and 1.5 liters per hectare either sprayed at 6 to 8 DAT. Advance EC was not phytotoxic to transplanted seedlings of IR-74 at both rates tested. Weed control assessments made at 42 days after application (DAA) of Advance CE showed that 1.0 liter product per hectare was adequate to obtain economic yield of rice under observed conditions during the trial
