Effect of algavit supplementation on egg production and cholesterol levels in egg of SCWL chicken

Studies were conducted at the Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine poultry project of the Visayas State College of Agriculture, Baybay, Leyte [Philippines] from March 13, 1991 to August 13, 1991 to determine the effect of Algavit feed/drink supplement powder on egg production, egg characteristics and cholesterol level in eggs of ready-to-lay pullets until their 20th week of egg-laying. Algavit powder was incorporated in the feed at levels of 0%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% while Algavit liquid was mixed with the drinking water at levels of 0ml, 10ml, 15ml, and 20ml per liter. Each treatment made use of 10 layers. Generally, results revealed that both Algavit L and Algavit P did not significantly improve egg production. However, Algavit L at 15 ml/l was comparable with the control and significantly better than Algavit P. In terms of egg weights, egg content and shell weights, albumin height and egg shell thickness Algavit P was more effective at 7.5%. Cholesterol level in eggs was found to be not significantly reduced by either of the two Algavit products
