Effect of corn, sweetpotato and yardlong bean intercropping on growth and yield of potato
1993
Asandhi, A.A.
This experiment aimed to evaluate the growth and yield of potato when intercropped with corn, yarldong bean or sweetpotato. The potatoes were planted at the same time as the intercrops or seven days after the planting of the intercrops. Randomized complete block design with four replications was used. The results showed that potatoes intercropped with corn, sweetpotato or yardlong bean had similar growth as that of monoculture potato. However, the yield of potato under the intercropping systems was significantly lower than that of the monoculture. When planted simultaneously, the yields of potato intercropped with corn sweetpotato or yardlong bean did not differ significantly. When the potatoes were planted seven days after the planting of intercrops, the yield of potato intercropped with yardlong bean was higher than those intercropped with corn or sweetpotato. The lower yield of potato intercropped with sweetpotato was due to the high incidence of bacterial wilt and high plant competition
