Study of F1 hybrids of gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii) with yellow inflorescens and its greenhouse performance
1991
Osiecki, M. (Instytut Sadownictwa i Kwiaciarstwa, Skierniewice (Poland))
The aim of the study was to investigate the possibility of obtaining F1 hybrids of gerbera with uniform colour of inflorescence. 69 crosses were made between cultivars and clones with inflorescence of the same colour. Among these crosses, only one was selected (clone K 1/1 x cv. Brigitte) of which all plants had yellow inflorescences. The investigation was carried out in two cycles. Above 70 percent of the plants of that cross produced a lower yield than 16 flowers per plant a year. The aim of the second part of the study was to improve the yield by selecting young seedlings. The selection was made on the base of the correlation between: number of leaves, number of shoots and hight of young plant and their behaviour in the glasshouse
