Changes in the content of dry matter, extract and sugars in outer, middle and inner leaf bases of onion during storage

The content of dry matter, extract and different sugars were investigated in onion bulbs during long storage. The content of dry matter and the extract were increased toward the center of onion bulbs. In the inner bases the content of fructose was lower, of trisaccharides higher, and the glucose little lower than in outer leaf bases. The onion of cv. Czerniakowska contained more dry matter, extracts, sucrose, and trisaccharides then the onion bulbs cv. Oporto
