Effect of peach tree training and pruning on their growth and yield in the greenhouse during the first years after planting

The investigations were carried out from 1989-91 with the main aim of finding out which is the best way of tree training and pruning for peaches grown at high density in greenhouse. The results of the study showed that when grown in the greenhouse, peach trees budded on peach seedlings, should not be maintained with crowns of bush type, because severe pruning stimulates their growth and drastically reduces yield in the first year after planting. Leaving a leader on the peach crown, after several times repeated light summer pruning, enables a balance to be kept between growth and yield and limits crown size, so that no dwarf rootstocks are needed and trees can be planted at high density
