Microplot and pot experiments were carried out and chemical analyses were performed 1978-82 to estimate suitability of diploid Ascherson's cocksfoot (2n=14) for field cultivation. The experiments have proved that the Ascherson's cocksfoot can be cultivated under field conditions as a mixture with alfalfa. This cockfoot species shows approximate soil requirements as the common cocksfoot. The Ascherson's cocksfoot does not differ significantly with chemical composition from common cocksfoot, showing, however a tendency to lower calcium, magnesium and sodium content and to higher total nitrogen and crude fibre content in dry matter
