Plant-water relations in rainfed wheat as influenced by antitranspirants

The influence of antitranspirants (AT) on leaf water potential and relative leaf water content (RWC) was investigated in wheat grown under dryland conditions during the winter season of the 1980/81 season. PMA (60 g/ha), Alachlor (10 g/ha), and Kaolinite (60 kg/ha) were applied at midtillering and boot stages. Alachlor and Kaolinite showed 4 and 2.7 higher RWC, respectively; whereas PMA reduced it by 9.5 compared with the control. Leaf water potential under all the three ATs was higher than the control. Correlation study involving untreated control plants at the flowering stage showed that a significantly negative relationship exists between RWC and leaf water potential
