Grounds for the decrease in the volume of fibre production and quality of fibre flax were analysed. A detailed characteristic of new and deserving early and midseason varieties with high fibre content and good spinning ability in fibre is offered. Recommendations both for admission the variety to production and enlarging the sowings of early varieties Prizyv 81, Tomskij 16, midseason varieties -Orshanskij 2, Rodnik, Dashkovskij, Niva, Zarya, Alexim and of late varieties - Belinka, Mogilevskij, Kalininskij 85 are given.
