Development of corn initial material for the recurrent breeding

The specific combination ability (SCA) of self-pollinated corn lines developed at the Corn Breeding Institute and of the elite lines broadly used in the practical breeding have been studied. On the basis of the identification of above 3000 self-pollinated lines, valuable corn genotypes have been selected and 11 synthetic populations have been formed. After a single cycle of recurrent selection recombinants have been selected with SCA higher than in the initial lines-components and standards. A conclusion has been drawn on the effectivity of this technique of synthetic populations' formations and of the recurrent selection in them
