The dynamics of stem and foot rot development on corn lines and hybrids with various resistance to these diseases has been studied. A direct correlation between the foot rot and the infection level at the stage of full ripeness, the allowable levels of the infection and of the longevity of the overmaturity period for the selection of early ripening breeding material for the mechanized harvesting have been shown. The possibility of the short-term forecasting of vield losses by the level of plant infection at the stage of the full grain ripeness as well as the minimizing of yield losses by the use of data on the rates of disease development are under discussion
