Some biological peculiarities of the winter wheat variety Otrada Severa

In the paper a description of the perspective winter wheat Otrada Severa (A joy of the North) is given which was obtained by the method of stepwise chemical mutagenesis with subsequent selection for winter hardiness, yielding ability, immunity and other characters. The results of study and comparative evaluation in a competitive testing of the winter wheat Otrada Severa and the introduced variety Albidum 12 over the years 1988-1990 are presented. Data of a comparative analysis of dynamics of productivity of haulm stand, leaf area and sugar content in Otrada Severa and Albidum 12 are given. The photoreaction of the variety and some other quantitative characters of interest for breeding are investigated. In the course of studying the duration of sprouts-heading period, it was established that Otrada Severa exhibits a very strong response to natural short light day. The genetic nature of some morphological characters of Otrada Severa is established
