Effect of bovine growth hormone application on milk quality and quantity

The effect of recombinant bovine growth hormone applied to cows 98-294 days after calving (the 1st group) and 154-294 days after calving (the 2nd group) on milk production and milk composition of milk was studied. In comparison with the control group milk production in both experimental groups increased after bST application by 19.1 percent and 18.6 percent, resp. on the average during the whole lactation by 13 percent and 10 percent, resp., by 574 and 494 litres of 4-percentual FCM. The influence of bST on milk production culminated on the 6th resp. 7th day after the application when milk cows produced about 26.6 percent and 25.0 percent milk more than the control group. The differences among the groups in the content of fat, protein, dry matter, lactose and fat-free dry matter did not achieve the value of statistic significance during the whole lactation.
