Karyological analysis of the long-term cultivated Abies sp. calli

Karyological analyses were made on 3-years old calli of Abies alba, Abies concolor x Abies grandis; Abies grandis x Abies concolor hybrids and on 1-year old calli Abies grandis, Abies concolor. Calli were obtained from the hypocotyl segments cultivated on the modified SH medium (1971). Cultivation interval for the calli was adapted to 10 days last two months before investigation. The genotype and age of calli did not influence changes in the chromosome number. During cultivation unchanged diploid chromosome numbers were observed and the tissue showed no tendency toward the polyploidization.
