Reaction of triticale and winter wheat on forecrop and soil cultivation

In the 3-year field experiments on loam brown soils near Nitra, Slovakia, the effect of forecrop (maize for silage and spring barley) and soil cultivation (traditional and sowing into non-cultivated soil) on fertility and grain crop of triticale KS-126 and winter wheat Slavia was studied. Winter wheat gave a higher grain yield (on average about 0.63 t.ha-1) than triticale. In the dry year triticale gave a higher crop (about 0.63 t.ha-1). Weather was the most decisive factor. Triticale was more responsive to the tested agricultural practices. Triticale achieved a higher grain yield after maize for silage (insignificantly) and at sowing into non-cultivated soil (significantly). The yield in triticale affected more the weight of thousand grains than the number of spikes in winter wheat. On the contrary, grain crop affected the number of spikes per the area unit
