The influence of different forms of nitrogen fertilizers and irrigation on the yield and content of nitrates in carrots

Field trials in 1992 revealed that N fertilizers (ammonium sulphate and urea) labelled with the 15N isotope, at the recommended rate of N 80kg.ha-1, did not increase the nitrate content in carrots under usual irrigation. Merely 0.035 to 0.207 percent of the applied nitrogen was converted into nitrates. The rest of N was used in the assimilation of the biomass formation process.
