[Dinitrogen fixation estimates in lentil as affected by several doses of carbofuran using 15N labelled fertilizer]

Nitrogen fixation in lentil grown under rain fed conditions in the presence of indigenous rhizobium strains was estimated using 15N labelled fertilizer method and using wheat as reference crop. Measurements were conducted at two growing stages (flowering and podding). At flowering stage, lentil derived about 50 of its nitrogen from atmospheric N-2-fixation. Compared with podding stage, 50 Ndfa decreased to 39, while the rate of Ndfs increased. On the other hand, Ndfa was not affected significantly by Carbofuran, while the additional of this pesticide increased the rate of Ndfs resulting in increases in both dry matter and N content. Such increases were not related to Sitona control, because no infection symptoms were observed over the growing period, but it might be due to controlling other non-studied pests.
