Study on external parasites of native chickens in Chonburi province, Thailand

Examination of 226 adult native chickens (aged 1-3 years,30% male and 70 % female) from 6 ampurs of Chonburi province during December 1988-February 1989 revealed incidence of the following ectoparasites : Menopon gallinae 95.6 %, Menacanthus pallidulus 3.1 %, Lipeurus caponis 58 %, Goniocotes gallinae 11.9 %, Goniodes dissimilis 3.1%, Echidnophaga gallinacea 20.4 %, Haemaphysalis spp. 1.8 %, Ornithonyssus bursa 18.1 %, Megninia spp. 6.6 % and Pterolichus spp. 13.7 % In addition, incidence of these ectoparasites in each ampur of Chonburi province and their habitats were also reported in this study.
