Control of bee mites by integrated pest management

Possible combination of two different control measures for bee mites (Varroa jacobsoni and Tropilaelaps clareae) under studied on their ecology that is so called integrated pest management. Caging the queen and chemical control were used to treat V. jacobsoni and T. clareae in this experiment. Caging the queen involves enclosing the queen in a small cage made from queen excluder. This allows the queen to interact with the colony, but prevents her from laying eggs. Two different methods are as follow; caging of the queen for 9 days and all sealed broods are moved to the other hives; another method is caging of the queen for 21 days prevents her from laying eggs during this period and the subsequence of developing bee brood disrupts the life cycle of the mites. The results of two methods show that the total number of T. clareae cannot survive because they lack of food but some V. jacobsoni still live on the adult bees. Combined with coumaphos (Asuntol) at dose 0.8 gm in 1 liter of water and sprayed inside the whole hive with 2 times in 3 days. This combination method can control both V. Jacobsoni and T. clareae more than 95 %.
