Culture techniques of Cephalopods [Sepioteuthis lessoniana, Sepia pharaonis, Sepiella inermis]

The present results demonstrated the possibilities and level of suitabilities for commercial culture of the three Cephalopods. Big fin squid. S. lessoniana was the most interesting species for commercial culture scale because of its high growth rate which (600 gm) could be attained in 4 months from hatchings, thus at least 3 crops could be harvested perannual, by the way higher survival rate had to be improved. Spineless cuttlefish S. inemis was seeded second in suitability because of its good adaptation to the environment, high growth and survival rate but its maximum weight was only 80 gm in about 4 months. Pharaoh cuttlefish S. pharaonis was seeded third high survival rate but slow growth 100 gm of weight could be attained in 4 months and maximum weight of about 1,000 gm probably took more than one year. In 1985 cage and earthen pond culture were studied on squid. S. lessoniana and cuttlefish S. inemis. respectively. From present available results, the stocking densities of 3-5 ind. sq. meter was possible in cage with net production 369.03-451.20 gmc sq. meter and 6 and over ind. sq. meter was possible in earthen pond with net production 81.16 gm sq. meter.
