The neutron scattering method for measuring soil moisture content has been used in Land Development Program in Thailand since 1973 by the Section of Radiation Technology, Division of Soil Analysis, Department of Land Development. The neutron moisture meter is a good device for measuring soil moisture in situ. The method is non-destructive, applicable to most soil types and localities as well as to the degree of soil moisture. A fundamental objective of land development system is to overcome water shortage by providing appropriate technology for soil and crop management so that the limited water in all dry-farming is used efficiently. The advantage of the neutron soil moisture meter used in the field of land improvement and management research works has been recognized. the greater precision and rapidity of this method provided accurate data of soil moisture characteristics which is one of the most important factors in Land Development Program.
