Nursing and culturing tiger prawns, Penaeus monodon Fabricius, have been carried on sined 1986. Methodology was developed from that used with Macrobrachium rosenbergii and Penaeus merguiensis. At present, there are more than 800 prawn farms established in this area. Nauplii were purchased from hatchery and raised in cement ponds to about 25 days or until postlarva is (PL15) or about 1.5 cm. in length. They were then sold to another farm which would raise them for 2 weeks to PL30 (1.0-1.5 inches). PL30 were sold to another farm to be raised in 0.25-5.0 rai earthern ponds at the stocking rate of 30000-35000/rai(1600 sq meter). Within 4 months the prawns would grow to the size about 25-30 pcs./kg with the production of 600-1000 kg/rai.
