Effect of hilling up on groundnut growth and seed yield

To increase pod formation is one way to increase seed yield of groundnut. Hilling up the soil at specific period is believe that can increase pod formation. Therefore the trial of hilling up at different periods were conducted at Kamphaengsaen campus in late July 1982. The experiment was arranged for 4 replications in a split plot design. Varieties of Tainan 9 and SK. 38 were two main plots and 7 subplots were as follows. R1 planting on ridge, hilling up at 20 days after emergence; R2 planting on ridge, hilling up at 30 days after emergence; R3 planting on ridge, hilling up at 40 days after emergence; R4 planting on ridge, hilling up at 50 days after emergence; R5 planting on ridge, hilling up at 60 days after emergence; R6 planting on ridge, no hilling up; R7 planting on flat land and no hilling up. Height of groundnut plants were effected by the practice of hilling up. Early hilling up during 20-40 days after emergence had less effect on plant growth than late hilling up. Highest seed yield and number of pods were obtain from 40 days hilling up treatment. Hilling up at 50 and 60 days or no hilling up treatment gave very low seed yield and number of pods.
