Effect on liveweight gain and feed conversion efficiency of replacing corn with rice bran in the diets of growing/finishing pigs
1991
Ramlal, H. | Ram, G.
Rice bran was used to replace corn on an as-fed basis in the diets of growing/finishing pigs at levels of 0 %, 10 % and 20 %. Pigs were balanced for sex and litter and housed in groups of three. Each diet was replicated twice. Soybean meal was used to supply amino acids and a swine vitamin/mineral premix was added to each diet. Animals were fed for 84 days. Average initial and liveweights (kg) were 25.9, 27.0, 25.2, 80.0, 80.0 and 74.7 for the 0 %, 10 % and 20 % diets respectively. The average daily gains (g) of 640, 630 and 590 for the three diets, respectively, were not significantly different. The feed conversion efficiencies (as-fed basis) of 3.25, 3.34 and 3.4 for the three diets were not significantly different.
