Studies on bacterial and fungal diseases of Anthurium in Trinidad

An investigation into diseases of anthurium was conducted in Trinidad during 1989-1990. Bacterial leaf spot caused by Pseudomonas spp. is reported for the first time in Trinidad. Anthurium bacterial blight, anthracnose and root rot are also reported. A survey of anthurium farms indicated that anthracnose was the most prevalent disease followed by root rot. Bacterial blight and bacterial leaf spot were found on relatively few farms. Biochemical characteristics of the bacteria associated with anthurium bacterial blight and bacterial leaf spot are presented.
