Vegetable production in St. Kitts by small to medium-scale farmers showed dramatic increases during the second half of the 1980s. This was due to the close working relationship between the researchers and the farmers and the research-extension linkage that was developed. Vegetable production was a main component of the agriculture import substitution drive and became the focus of crop research in St. Kitts during the second half of the last decade.
