Propagation of Phytolacca dodecandra (endod) by stem cuttings and seed

The effect of IBA, NAA and shoot position on the rooting of Phytolacca dodecandra L'Herit. (endod) stem cuttings was investigated. The number of roots per cutting increased as the concentration of IBA increased, whereas the root length decreased. Low rooting percentages were associated with low levels of IBA. Combinations of IBA and NAA did not improve rooting. Cuttings taken from the apical and medial regions rooted earlier than the basal ones, but there was no difference in rooting percentage at six weeks. Observation was also made on seed germination of Phytolacca dodecandra strains 3, 17 and 44; more rapid germination was achieved with scarification. Over 70 % germination was recorded in all treatments at four weeks from planting.
