Results of a study of the soil samples from vegetable plots located in the regions of Banat and Srem (Yugoslavia) have shown that these soils have considerably higher contents of microelements than the soils under field crops. The samples from state farms had lower contents of macro- and microelements than those from private farms. The contents of humus and available potassium in soil samples taken under field crops were insufficient for an intensive vegetable production, but the contents of microelements, with the exception of zinc, were sufficient for the production of both field crops and vegetables. Some soil samples had increased concentrations of available iron and copper. The contents of harmful elements were fairly uniform, except for their increased contents in greenhouses.
