The inheritance of primary root number in F1 and F2 generations from diallel crossing of 4 winter wheat varieties ("Sava", "Libellula", "Bankut-1205" and "Krusevacka 9083") was investigated. The number of primary roots is inherited partially dominantly and intermediately. Parential varieties differed in primary root number. The number of primary roots was controlled by additive and nonadditive effects of genes. "Libellula" and "Sava" had more recessive genes than "Krusevacka 9083" and "Bankut-1205" which had more dominant genes in the F1. In the F2 "Sava", "Bankut-1205" and "Krusevacka 9083" had similar recessive - dominant gene proportions, but "Libellula" had more recessive genes. Heritability in the broad sense was very high (91).
