In an experiment in which fresh browse was fed to indigenous goats, intake of browse was unrelated to the tannin content of the four browse species offered. Intake of browse was positively related to the N content of the browse. Digestibility of the browse/hay mix was negatively related to tannin content of the browse. In another experiment in which sheep were fed hay and tree pods, supplementation with pods increased intake and digestibility of hay. Nitrogen retention by the animals was increased. Milling the pods increased intake of hay but reduced digestibility of the mixed hay and pod diet. However, nitrogen retention was higher when the pods were milled
