Gene pool of stone fruit species and their breeding at the Institute of fruit growing in Plovdiv

The results achieved up to this moment in the sphere of the stone fruit breeding are shown. As a result of the continuous enrichment of the stone fruit gene pool by breeding and introduction it now includes 7259 varieties, hybrids, elites, botanical species and forms. The number of hybrids in the pool is 6594 and that of foreign and native varieties - 665. The continuous enrichment of the stone fruit varietal composition makes necessary the rapid and comprehensive study of the new varieties with a view to actualizing the composition of the standard assortment for the country.
