Analysis of variance by "sweeping"

The alternative analysis of variance by "sweeping" is presented, as method for identifying residual variance of each plot, and as a method for simple evaluation of some designs (e.g. latice designs). The method is compared with analysis of variance by summation and with designs with rows and columns. Designs are discussed with regard to soil homogenity, size of experiments etc.
