Dynamics of the yield and botanical composition of pure and mixed grass stands founded as mono- or polycomponent seed mixtures under the conditions of long-term herbage harvesting
1995
Annuk, K.
After the 10th year of harvesting, in the composition of grass stands sown as a single crop, invasive cereal grasses, sown grasses, motley grasses, sown and non-sown leguminous grasses comprised the yields. The yield is not determined by the diversity of the sown grass mixture, it is determined by only 1...2 species out of the composition of grass stand, which do not always come from the grass mixture used. On fertile soils and on flood low-moor peat, with a large reserve of germinating seeds, the yield and its persistence are not basically determined by the sown grass mixtures used for sowing hay-meadows. The composition of the sown grass mixture is not as important as the suitability of its dominanting species to the given habitat and conditions of growth
