The influence of water-diluted extracts from Artemisia vulgaris and Tanacetum vulgare to the transpirational expedition of Pieris brassicacae diapausing pupae

The main object of current study was the measurement of the toxic effect on the weight loss of Pieris brassicae pupas during their diapause caused by water-diluted tuyon-containing plant extracts from Artemisia vulgaris and Tanacetum vulgare. Main result of the study was: the poisoning activity of the plant extracts depends on their concentration. The experiments showed that extracts from T. vulgare exerted more intensive water loss than extracts from A. vulgaris. The transpiration rate in treated diapausing pupae was used as indicator showing the degree of insecticidal activity of screened plant extracts. Current methods are rather good to open up new vistas in screening studies of entomophysiologically active plant extracts
